How to write a calculation
Arithmetic
2 + 3 * 4 → 14. Use + − * / ^ and parentheses. Type a hyphen for minus. Powers run right to left: 2^3^2 → 512; -2^2 → −4.
Percentages
15% of 80 → 12. 100 + 10% → 110; 100 - 10% → 90. A direct percentage adjusts the amount to its left. Multiplication removes that adjustment: 100 + 10% * 2 → 100.2.
Dollar amounts
Put $ directly before a number: $200 + $50 → 250, $1,250.50, or -$200. It also works in variables, labels and percentages: 15% of $200 → 30. The prefix is a number notation; answers remain plain numbers. Other currency symbols and currency conversions are not supported.
Variables & labels
coffee = 4.50, then coffee * 5. Names are case sensitive; use letters, numbers and underscores, starting with a letter or underscore. Coffee: 4.50 * 5 adds a label only.
Earlier answers
line2 + line4 uses those line numbers, including blank lines and notes in the numbering. References must point to earlier answers. Stored variables and line references are numbers, so add a % when a percentage is intended.
Totals
total = hiro + maya defines a variable you can use in later calculations. Until you define that variable, total on its own adds every calculation row since the previous total, including assignments and referenced results. Earlier totals are excluded. Blank lines do not reset it; errors must be fixed first. Only of and lineN are reserved names.
Notes & numbers
Start a note with # or //; both also start inline comments. Use decimal points, grouped commas such as 1,250, or scientific notation such as 1e3. Functions, units and currency conversions are not supported.

Answers show up to 12 significant digits; calculations use standard floating-point numbers. Notes stay in this browser and are never sent anywhere. Download makes a plain-text copy. Clear can be undone until you edit the text again, including after a reload.

Up to 500 lines and 50,000 characters per note; 1,000 characters and 256 tokens per calculation.
